A History of Yellow Springs Churches, Part I 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the Senior Center Great Room
Usually when one thinks of the history of Yellow Springs, Antioch College is probably the first thing that comes to mind. Various Yellow Springs churches began as early and are as closely entwined in the history of Yellow Springs, but rarely get attention from an historical perspective.
The Yellow Springs Historical Society is inviting churches and other religious institutions to share their histories in Historical Society programs. Because there are so many organizations to consider, we are starting with with those with earlier dates of establishment in Yellow Springs.
For the first of this series, we will feature: Central Chapel AME Church, Pleasant Grove Missionary Church, Yellow Springs United Methodist Church, First Presbyterian Church and St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church.
At this meeting you will also be able to view the limited edition 1930's Glen Map Print...a fund-raiser for preserving the Antioch Bookplate archives. This print was taken from the original printing plate and would make an excellent holiday gift.
Also, this program offers an excellent opportunity to pay for a 2010 Historical Society membership. Help us save postage. Families $15.00, individuals $10.00, seniors $5.00.
The gathering is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

The board of the Yellow Springs Historical Society is deeply grateful to Steve Deal and Nancy Mellon for the time that they have allowed us to use the parlor in their historic home as a museum for the growing collection of Yellow Springs historical memorabilia.
We fully understand that they have other needs for the space, and we will be packing up and storing the collection over the next few weeks, so for the foreseeable future, we will be without a museum.
It does give us an opportunity to dream and plan for a space to house both the museum collection and the Antioch Bookplate archives and to provide opportunities for people to do research.
Steve and Nancy's generosity in housing our first efforts has given us a starting point, and we will be forever indebted for their kindness.

You will see more about the acquisition by the Yellow Springs Historical Society of the Antioch Bookplate Company (eventually the Antioch Publishing Company division of the Antioch Company) archive of art, artifacts and correspondence in the future.
As a teaser (and to help us fund the work that needs to be done with the archives) we are offering a special limited-edition print made from a plate found in the archives:
